According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, a woman driving a car in a two-day rally in western Maine was killed Friday night when the car she was driving veered off the road and struck a tree on the first day of the race.
According to Chief Deputy James Urquhart, Erin Kelly, 48, of Marshall, Virginia, was declared deceased at the scene.
In a car being driven by Thomas Pullen, 41, of Northwood, New Hampshire, Kelly was a passenger. Near Lower Richardson Lake, the two were taking part in the yearly New England Forest Rally Race.
Just before 7 o’clock in the evening, Pullen’s car overturned on the South Arm Road in Township C, close to Andover in Oxford County.
The crash is under investigation.
