Miami-Dade Police are investigating a deadly shooting that resulted in death of one person and another injured at a Walmart in Florida City. The incident happened Wednesday afternoon at around 3:00pm located at 33501 South Dixie Highway in Florida City. According to authorities, a 23-year-old man who was later identified as Nathaniel Baez passed away from his wounds.
Six rounds were fired, according to witnesses, before individuals in the business started to flee as a result of the firing. According to police, the incident began with a fight between two groups, each consisting of three people.
One spectator was shot by a stray bullet in addition to Baez, who was involved in the altercation. Two young children were inside the business, according to Miami-Dade Police spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta, along with a number of other customers and employees who were in the area when the shooting took place.
One of the participants in the altercation was detained.
Five people, who were attempting to flee the gunfire, sustained scratches and scrapes.
