Edinburg Police Department have identified the victim and suspect involved in Edinburg fatal shooting. The victim was identified as Eric Michael Garcia. An arrest warrant was issued for 32-year-old, McAllen resident Juan Miguel Herrera Gomez. The shooting occurred early Sunday morning at the 3900 block of Garfield Avenue.
Students at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley were advised to avoid the area of Teague and Garfield Avenue at 3 a.m. due to a shooting and police presence. According to city officials, authorities executed an arrest warrant at Gomez’s home, but he was not found.
Eric is survived by his three daughters, three brothers, his mother Maria Vargas and father Kike Vargas. Eric was a great son, brother, nephew and an amazing father to his daughter.
