George “Moe” Merritt has sadly passed away. Buchanan Eng Co broke the news of Merrit passing on their Facebook page. Th statement released reads – “We are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of ”Moe” Merritt. Moe joined our department on October 17, 1963, serving in various positions in our department over the years. He was instrumental in fundraisers, projects, as well as the acquisition and renovation of the Aschenbrenner Building. Moe was going to receive his 60 year badge this year.
Moe was an incredible friend to generations of members in our department. His smile could light up a room, with his kindness brightening our day here at the firehouse. Moe was one of the last members of that generation of “Old Timers”, who built the company up to the modern organization we are today.
Moe was also a proud veteran of the US Air Force and a lifelong “Jellyeater” who was proud to be from Buchanan.
We will deeply miss Moe and the decades of laughs, dedication, and kindness he provided to us. This is a significant loss for our department and we send our thoughts and prayers to Moe’s family.”
George “Moe” Merritt obituary will be released by the family.
