50-year-old Norman Emanuel Oxendine Jr. of Maxton died early this morning in a hit-and-run on Rennert Road in Robeson County, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol. The incident happened on on SR 1752 Rennert Rd near Hacksaw Drive. According to Trooper J. O., officers were dispatched to the scene around 5:22 a.m after they received report of the incident.
During the investigation, troopers discovered the victim, who was injured in a previous crash, laying in the northbound travel lane. The previously reported collision’s driver was attempting to stop traffic when Vehicle 1, going northbound, ran over the victim who was lying on the road.
According to troopers, the car that hit the victim did not stop after contact. Vehicle 1 and its operator are currently unknown. The tragic incident is currently under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
