The Gloucester man shot and killed in Newport News early Tuesday morning as been identified as 30-year-old Aaron West. The shooting happened in the 800 block of Old Oyster Point Road near the intersection with J. Clyde Morris Boulevard.
Police responded to the area following a report of a shooting at around12:46 a.m. Responding officers found Aaron Paul West outside suffering from a gunshot wound. West was taken to a hospital where he later died, according to police. The motive for the shooting is unknown.
The investigation is ongoing. No further details have been made available.
