Authorities identified the man killed following a motorcycle-versus car crash car Wednesday afternoon in Sheffield Township. According to authorities, a Mazda 3 stopped at a Mayfield Street stop sign before continuing west on state Route 57. A Yamaha 850 MTN motorbike arrived from the south on Route 57 and rammed into the driver’s side of the vehicle at the same time.
Despite wearing a protective helmet, the motorcycle’s 23-year-old driver, Javier Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old female driver and a 21-year-old male passenger of the Mazda were both transported by ambulance to UH Elyria Medical Center with minor injuries.
State troopers were assisted by members of the Sheffield Township Fire Department, Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, and Lorain Police Department after the collision. Authorities are actively investigating the accident.
