A man has passed away after jumping off a dock into Lake Lanier on Thursday. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the man was identified as 24-year-old Thomas Milner. Thomas died after he was shocked by electricity in the water.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas dived into the water from his family dock and screamed for assistance shortly after. A family friend made an unsuccessful attempt to use a ladder to pull him out of the water.
The sheriff’s office reports that when a neighbor on a boat dived into the water to assist Thomas, they instantly identified the burning sensation as an electric shock. To assist Thomas, the good Samaritan swam ashore, shut off the power, and then dove back into the water. Thomas was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
