Authorities identified Springfield man who was allegedly killed by his roommate as 49-year-old Daniel Medina of Springfield. The incident happened on the 0-100 block of Euclid Avenue just before 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 27.
According to Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh, officers were called to an apartment after a man was found unresponsive. When police arrived, they found an adult male on an apartment floor suffering from an apparent stab wound. Daniel was pronounced dead at the scene.
Walsh went on to say that a suspect, identified as 63-year-old Robert Woods, was apprehended about a half-hour later. Woods allegedly shared an apartment with the victim.
Woods has been charged with first-degree murder. Woods is being held without the right to bond, according to Leydon, and is expected back in court on August 24.
The case is still being investigated by the Springfield Police Department’s homicide section, in collaboration with the Hampden District Attorney’s murder unit.
