Authorities have identified the township woman and her ex-husband who died in an apparent murder-suicide. Kimberly Hoffman, 49, of Little Egg Harbor was slain by her ex-husband, Carl Schulz, Jr., 52, also of the township, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a statement.
Schulz, Jr., 52, is believed of breaking into his ex-wife Kimberly Hoffman’s residence on Whitemarsh Court in Little Egg Harbor on Saturday morning July 29. According to Billhimer, an investigation by the prosecutor’s office’s Major Crime Unit and Little Egg Harbor detectives showed that Schulz killed his ex-wife and a family dog before turning the gun on himself.
Billhimer and township Police Chief James Hawkins said Saturday that police went to Hoffman’s property on Whitemarsh Court around 5:10 a.m. in response to a 911 call from a lady who said someone was breaking into her unit.
The officers who pushed their way into the apartment discovered a woman with an apparent gunshot wound to the face, a dog that had also been shot to death, and a male with a gunshot wound to the head who was still conscious, according to authorities.
The man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he was later pronounced dead.
