Authorities identified the woman shot and killed by her 58-year-old ex-boyfriend while walking to her car while she was on break from work. Officials identified the woman as 40-year-old Amber Jo Thomas. The incident happened Thursday Aug. 3 at 11:35 a.m. in the parking lot of the former UAW Hall at 601 Woodland Drive when Thomas and one of her coworkers, a 55-year-old man were shot.
The 58-year-old ex-boyfriend fled the scene in a tan 4-door Ford Focus, according to police, but was apprehended when officers located the vehicle near South Ann Arbor Street and Willis Road. The 58-year-old man collided with another vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot.
According to police, the individual refused to comply with their demands, prompting them to use a taser before putting him into prison. The driver of the vehicle struck by the suspect was taken by paramedics to a hospital in Metro Detroit.
Thomas and her coworker were taken by ambulance to a Metro Detroit hospital, where the 55-year-old victim was listed in stable condition as of 3:30 p.m.
