The deceased individual from yesterday’s fire investigation at Myrtle St has been identified as Christyan Roberto Cortez, 18 years old of Elkhart. The incident occurred Tuesday morning in the 100 block of Myrtle Street. According to police, when removing debris from the building, emergency personnel discovered a dead dog and a dead man on the first level of the front apartment.
According to the police, this building is actually divided into apartments, and there were several persons inside. The front unit had a fire.
This remains an active and ongoing Elkhart County Homicide Unit death investigation.
