Luis Sifuentes, 38, of Bensenville has died after drowning victim at Warren Dunes State Park. Police say three people from Illinois were outside the swim area past the buoys. when they began to drown. Sifuentes was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second individual was saved and taken to the hospital by paramedics. The third individual successfully exited the water on his own.
A woman nearby who helped the emergency team, said this was preventable.
“You have to listen and be responsible and follow the rules as far as when there is high tide and the pull underneath. They announced on the intercom not to go past the buoys and so many people were past the buoys It is about common sense,” said Mona Infelise, visitor from Illinois.
