Authorities are investigating after a student of University of Georgia was found dead. The victim was identified as Laken Hope Riley, 22, Herrick on the University of Georgia campus a student of University of Georgia. At approximately 12:38 p.m., they found the individual in the forested area behind Lake Herrick.
Laken was not conscious and not breathing and had visible injuries. Emergency medical responders pronounced the individual dead at the scene.
A suspect was arrested on Friday in connection with the death of a college student who disappeared Thursday while jogging on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, authorities announced.
According to report, police later identified the individual responsible as Jose Antonio Ibarra. According to reports, he is expected to face charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false detention, kidnapping, obstructing a 911 call, and concealing the death of another.
According to UGA police, Ibarra is neither a citizen of the United States nor a university student. He did not know Riley, and authorities suspect he acted alone, they said.
Riley died from blunt force trauma.
