The victim of the fatal shooting outside the Lawrence Public Library on Wednesday has been identified as Vincent Lee Walker, 39, of Lawrence. The shooting happened in the 700 block of Vermont Street about 5:10 p.m.
The suspect identified as Nicholas Beaver, 32, of Topeka has been taken into police custody. He was arrested at W 6th and Michigan streets, which is less than a mile from the crime scene, per the log.
Beaver was booked into the Douglas County Jail on Wednesday for second-degree murder, according to a booking log. The investigation is ongoing. Our prayers and condolence are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
