The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who died in a fireworks accident in Summerville neighborhood as Allen Ray McGrew, 41. The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Cottonwood Drive in the Crestwood Subdivision in Summerville.
Police officers responded to the scene and found a man lying on the road suffering from major injuries. He was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m.
According to report, Allen died after igniting a “large firework device” and setting in on top of his head. The coroner says the firework exploded on top of his head and caused extreme head injuries.
Witnesses told investigators that the injuries were a result of a fireworks accident.
Detectives are conducting an ongoing investigation into this incident.
