Barbara Friedes, a resident at CHOP and treated pediatric cancer patients has sadly passed away at age 30. Barbara was identified was killed by a speeding driver on Wednesday night in Center City Philadelphia.
The accident occurred around 7 p.m. while Friedes was traveling in a bicycle lane at 18th and Spruce streets. According to report, Barbara was thrown about 20 to 30 feet before she hit the ground. She was transported to the hospital for injuries to her head. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police say the 68-year-old driver in a Volkswagen was speeding down Spruce Street just before the crash. Investigation is actively ongoing.
