Dr. Peter Carmichael has sadly passed away. Peter’s loved ones confirmed his passing in a post shared on social media.
It reads – “Garry Adelman’s Civil War PageSo sad to learn of the death of Pete Carmichael, historian, author, and head of the Civil War Institute, but more importantly, father and husband. My last saw him on McPherson Ridge on the first day of Gettysburg 161. adios, Pete, and my condolences to your family.”
Marcy E. Zimmer also wrote – “I am beyond saddened to learn about the passing of Dr. Peter Carmichael. He brought so much joy and positivity to the Gettysburg community. Although I never had the privledge of taking a class with Dr. Carmichael, I have only heard the absolute best from all of his students.
The several times I met him he was always willing to help and encourage me to be the best I can, and was never afraid to give advice. The Gettysburg College and history community will surely miss Dr. Carmichael. My sincerest condolences to his family.
Peter S. Carmichael was the Director for the Civil War Institute in the Gettysburg College with 104 videos in the C-SPAN Video Library; the first appearance was a 2000 Speech as an Assistant Professor for the History Department in the Western Carolina Univeristy.
