It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic death of 16-year-old Uzziah Shell, a New Haven resident, who was fatally shot this afternoon. Uzziah’s life was senselessly cut short when he was shot on Goffe Street, near Hudson Street, around 2:30 p.m. The details surrounding his death remain under investigation, but it is clear that Uzziah was deeply loved by his family, friends, and community.
The shooting incident also led to a passing bus, carrying schoolchildren, being struck by a stray bullet. None of the children on the bus were injured, and members of the Yale Child Study Center were promptly dispatched to offer support to those affected by the traumatic incident.
In the wake of the shooting, New Haven Police (NHPD) took a 16-year-old into custody for possession of a “ghost gun” with an extended magazine. However, authorities have stated that they do not believe this individual was involved in the shooting.
Uzziah Shell was known for his warmth, intelligence, and potential. His tragic passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him. As his family and friends grieve this devastating loss, they remember him for the joy he brought into their lives.
Funeral arrangements and services will be announced in the coming days. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Uzziah’s family, friends, and the New Haven community during this incredibly difficult time. May he rest in peace.
