Caleb M. Mason obituary – The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified John R. Lyons, 24, of Westchester, as the primary suspect in the tragic triple homicide in Mahomet.
According to law enforcement officials, the investigation into the killings began late Wednesday night, when Berwyn Police Officers responded to a call at approximately 11:38 p.m. on the 1800 block. The report indicated a male subject armed with a gun. Upon arrival, officers located Lyons, but he fled on foot and managed to evade capture.
The Champaign County Coroner confirmed that the victims of the fatal shootings were Janis L. Mason, 61, Caleb M. Mason, 23, and Sara E. Mason, 26. All three were shot and killed in what authorities are calling a senseless act of violence.
The investigation is ongoing, and local authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Lyons’ whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding the murders to come forward.
