Owen Leahy Massachusetts – It is with heavy hearts that we report the sudden passing of Owen Leahy on the morning of January 6, 2025. Owen’s journey was one of remarkable resilience, overcoming the weight of addiction and mental health struggles that deeply shaped his life. In early 2014, after battling with alcohol and substance use, Owen made the courageous decision to embrace sobriety.
He became an active and committed member of Alcoholics Anonymous, finding strength and support in the fellowship of those who shared similar struggles. Owen worked tirelessly to rebuild his life, finding new purpose and hope in the ten years of sobriety that followed.
However, as many in recovery know, addiction and mental health challenges are often lifelong battles. In the fall of 2024, after a decade of sobriety, Owen faced setbacks and picked up again. Despite this relapse, he remained a cherished friend and an advocate for others in the program who faced similar difficulties. His vulnerability, compassion, and authenticity touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered not just for his struggles, but for his courage, his love for others, and his willingness to fight for better days.
Owen’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the AA community. He was a loving son, brother, and friend, known for his kind heart and determination to help others find hope even in the darkest moments.
