It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we report the tragic death of Deputy Jesus “Jesse” Vargas, a dedicated law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty.. Deputy Vargas faithfully served the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office for 17 years, upholding the values of integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the community he so loved.
Deputy Vargas was tragically shot shortly before noon on Stella Link Road, just north of the South Loop. Despite the heroic efforts to save him, Deputy Vargas succumbed to his injuries at Ben Taub Hospital.
Throughout his distinguished career, Deputy Vargas was known for his exceptional service, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond to protect and serve. His loss is felt deeply by his fellow officers, the community, and all who knew him.
Deputy Vargas leaves behind his loving wife and three children, who he cherished above all. He was a devoted family man who balanced the demanding nature of his career with his deep love for his family.
As we remember Deputy Vargas, we honor his memory and the sacrifices he made to ensure the safety and well-being of those around him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
