Iona and David Pollard Lamar Consolidated Independent School District – It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Iona Pollard, a beloved wife, mother, and dedicated educator. Iona was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon, February 8, 2025, at her home in Fort Bend County, just south of Richmond. She was 42 years old.
Iona was an inspiring and compassionate instructional coach at George Junior High School within the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (Lamar CISD), where she made a profound impact on the lives of students and fellow educators alike. Her commitment to nurturing and guiding the minds of young people was matched only by her unwavering support for her colleagues. She will be remembered for her dedication to education and her warm, caring nature.
Iona was married to David Pollard, who also worked within the district, and together they shared a beautiful life with their two children, who are part of Lamar CISD as well. The family’s loss is immeasurable, and their grief is shared by the entire community that has been touched by Iona’s kindness and generosity.
Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of Lamar CISD, noting the overwhelming sadness surrounding this loss. “The loss of their mother and the circumstances of this tragedy are incredibly heartbreaking,” Dr. Nivens said in a statement.
Iona’s family, friends, and colleagues are devastated by her untimely death. In this difficult time, they request privacy as they mourn the loss of a woman who was a dedicated professional, a loving wife, and an exceptional mother.
