Pittsfield IL accident – It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Reese Ramsey, a freshman at Pittsfield High School, and a 68-year-old woman from Pittsfield, following a devastating car accident Tuesday night on Illinois Route 106. The names of those involved were confirmed by local authorities and community leaders.
Reese Ramsey, beloved by her family, friends, and school community, was an aspiring young student whose spirit touched the lives of those around her. Reese’s untimely death has left an immense void in the hearts of all who knew her. A vibrant young life was taken far too soon, and her absence will be deeply felt by the entire Pittsfield High School family. Superintendent Todd Fox expressed the sorrow of the school district in a heartfelt message to the community, saying, “There are no words that can fully express the sorrow and pain we feel as a school community.”
The tragic accident occurred on Illinois Route 106, just east of 335th Street, at approximately 6:21 p.m. on Tuesday. A preliminary investigation from the Illinois State Police revealed that the crash involved three vehicles: a black 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Eric Harris, a 72-year-old man from Springfield, and a silver 2014 Jeep, driven by a juvenile female. The Silverado attempted to pass a truck tractor, resulting in a head-on collision with the Jeep. Both the Silverado and the Jeep then struck the truck tractor, which overturned. The 68-year-old woman, whose name is yet to be released, was also fatally injured in the crash.
The community has come together in the wake of this tragedy, with school officials offering counseling services for students and their families. Superintendent Fox encouraged parents to reach out if additional support is needed. Classes were cancelled on Wednesday as the district and city grieved the loss of two lives.
As the Pittsfield community mourns, we ask everyone to keep the families of Reese Ramsey and the 68-year-old woman in their thoughts and prayers, as well as those who were injured in the accident. In this time of unimaginable loss, we stand united in our grief and support for one another.
