It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Joharis Rivas, a 21-year-old resident of Cypress Hills, who tragically lost his life in a senseless act of violence on March 11, 2025. Joharis was shot in the head in front of an auto body shop at 10 Meserole Street in Williamsburg, New York. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, Joharis was found unresponsive and unconscious at the scene and was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Joharis was a young man full of potential, with a vibrant spirit and a bright future ahead of him. He was known to his family and friends as someone with a big heart, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer a kind word. His loss has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him, as his family, friends, and community mourn the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
At approximately 2:15 pm on the day of the incident, NYPD officers arrived at the scene to find Joharis gravely injured. According to reports, the suspect, dressed in all black and wearing a black mask, fled the scene on a scooter heading east on Meserole Street. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities work tirelessly to bring justice to Joharis and his grieving family.
Joharis’ death is a devastating reminder of the violence that continues to affect communities, leaving families to cope with senseless and tragic loss.
