ST. CLAIR COUNTY, IL – A tragic head-on collision on U.S. 50 at Clinton County Line Road on Monday night claimed the lives of three individuals, leaving their families and the community in deep sorrow. Illinois State Police responded to the scene at approximately 8:49 p.m. on March 17, where they discovered the aftermath of the fatal crash.
Jacob Emmerich-Tomlin, 10, of Lebanon, and Blaise Nowak, 21, of Trenton, were both pronounced dead at the scene. According to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr., both victims died from blunt-force trauma. A third individual, Ashley Koehler, 39, of Trenton, was transported to an area hospital but was later pronounced dead from her injuries.
The crash occurred when a Lincoln MKZ, traveling east on U.S. 50, collided head-on with a Honda Pilot, which was traveling west. The driver of the Lincoln was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Honda was taken to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. A passenger in the Honda, 10-year-old Jacob Emmerich-Tomlin, was also pronounced dead at the scene, while another passenger, 3-year-old Gracie Koehler, was taken to Cardinal Glennon Hospital and underwent surgery. Gracie’s condition remains critical as she continues to fight for recovery.
Ashley Koehler leaves behind her husband, Jeff, and three other children. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community. Her death has left an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved her.
Jacob, only 10 years old, had his whole life ahead of him and was loved by all who knew him. His tragic death has left his family and friends heartbroken.
Blaise Nowak, the 21-year-old driver of the second vehicle, was also pronounced dead at the scene, further deepening the sorrow surrounding the incident.
The Illinois State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and they have asked for anyone with information to come forward. The exact condition of the injured passenger in the Honda, Gracie Koehler, has not been released.
A GoFundMe fundraising page has been set up for Jacob and his family to assist with funeral expenses and medical bills. The community has come together to support those affected by this devastating tragedy.
