It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ashley Vaia, a beloved mother, daughter, and friend, who died in an early morning shooting in Deltona at the age of 38. Ashley’s life was cut short in a senseless act of violence in her Deltona home, where she was found by her teen daughter.
Ashley was a loving mother to three children, ages 2, 19, and 21, and her devotion to them was evident in every aspect of her life. She had a compassionate and caring spirit that left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her. She cherished her role as a mother and always strived to provide her children with a sense of love, security, and guidance.
Ashley’s bright personality and infectious laughter could light up any room. Her warmth and kindness were her defining qualities, and she made friends wherever she went. She loved spending time with her family, creating memories that will forever be cherished.
Ashley’s life was tragically taken by her ex-husband, Samuel Vaia, , leaving her family, friends, and community in shock and mourning. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Samuel Vaia, 33, fled the scene but was taken into custody an hour later after a standoff with SWAT and crashing his vehicle in Flagler County.
He was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries, including an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Deputies said Samuel Vaia later died at the hospital.
Ashley is survived by her three children, her family, and a network of friends who loved her dearly. Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on through her children and all who were fortunate to be a part of her life.
Ashley’s tragic death has left a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her memory will forever remain a guiding light. Rest in peace, Ashley. You will be missed but never forgotten.
