It is with great sadness that we announce the death of 25-year-old Andrew Jackson Ecker, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, who tragically lost his life following a police-involved shooting on the evening of Sunday, April 6th, 2025.
The incident began earlier that day when Pottstown Police responded to a vehicle crash on Beech and North Mount Vernon Streets. Upon investigating the crash, officers discovered a firearm in the vehicle, and Andrew Ecker fled the scene on foot. A pursuit ensued, which led to Ecker barricading himself inside his residence on Winding Road after firing at police officers. In the course of the confrontation, Officer Caleb Whitney was injured but was treated at Reading Hospital and released.
Montgomery County SWAT teams and officers from various jurisdictions arrived at the scene, working to resolve the situation. Despite efforts to negotiate with Ecker, the standoff ended tragically at approximately 10:45 p.m. when Ecker was fatally shot by law enforcement. The incident is currently under investigation by Montgomery County Detectives, as per protocol for officer-involved shootings in the county.
