With heavy hearts, we remember and honor the lives of Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba, who were tragically killed in the mass shooting that took place on April 17, 2024, at Florida State University (FSU).

Robert Morales
Robert Morales, a beloved figure in the Tallahassee community and a proud Miami-Dade County native, has been identified as one of the victims. Robert was known not only for his vibrant spirit and strong community ties, but also as one of the original founders of Gordos Cuban Cuisine, a popular and well-loved local restaurant that brought people together through food and culture.

Robert’s legacy in Tallahassee is deeply rooted in the joy and connection he fostered through his work and relationships. His untimely passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Tiru Chabba
Also tragically lost in the shooting was Tiru Chabba, 45, of Greenville, South Carolina. Tiru was in Tallahassee working for a university vendor in his role as Regional Vice President for Aramark Collegiate Hospitality, a position that reflected his deep commitment to excellence and leadership in the field.

Tiru was respected by colleagues and loved ones alike for his professionalism, kindness, and the genuine care he showed for the people he worked with and served. He is survived by his wife and two children, who are now left mourning the loss of a devoted husband and father.

Tiru’s family has hired national civil rights attorney Bakari Sellers of The Strom Law Firm and attorney Jim Bannister to represent them. In a statement, the attorneys said they were retained

“to ensure that all those who bear responsibility for this senseless act of violence are held to account.”

The loss of Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating toll that violence continues to take on our communities. Both men led lives of purpose and impact—Robert through his entrepreneurial spirit and cultural contributions, and Tiru through his leadership, service, and love for his family.

As their loved ones grieve, we join in mourning and remembrance. May their memories be a blessing, and may their families find strength and support in the days ahead.

Rest in peace, Robert and Tiru. You will never be forgotten.
