The Hampton community is mourning the loss of 29-year-old Xavier Sterling of Hampton, who tragically lost his life following a shooting outside Chance’s Restaurant and Lounge on the night of May 5, 2025.
At approximately 10:48 p.m., Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call reporting a shooting at the establishment, located in the 500 block of Settlers Landing Road. Responding officers found Xavier suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Hampton Fire and Rescue personnel initiated life-saving efforts and transported him to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Preliminary findings from the Hampton Police Division suggest that an altercation began inside the business and escalated outside, where an unidentified suspect fired a weapon, fatally injuring Xavier. The case remains under investigation by the Major Crimes Unit, and no further details have been released at this time.
Xavier Sterling was a young man with his life ahead of him, known by loved ones for his vibrant spirit and enduring loyalty to his family and friends. His sudden and violent passing is a devastating loss to those who knew him and to the greater Hampton community.
