Port Orange Walgreens shooting – Daniel Lee Asseff identified as man who shot pharmacy employees at Port Orange Walgreen

Authorities have identified the man accused of opening fire on two employees inside a Walgreens pharmacy as 60-year-old Daniel Lee Asseff.

According to the Port Orange Police Department, the shooting occurred around 5:26 p.m. Tuesday at the Walgreens located at 1625 Taylor Road. Officers responded to the scene and, upon arrival in the parking lot, heard a single gunshot. and then turned the gun on himself They found Asseff in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police say Asseff was a disgruntled customer who entered the pharmacy area and allegedly shot two employees while multiple people were inside the store. Initial reports incorrectly stated that no customers were present at the time of the incident.

One employee remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition with a gunshot wound to the torso. The second victim, who was shot in the foot, has been treated and released from the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released details regarding a possible motive. No charges have been filed as Asseff remains in critical condition.
