The Yuma Police Department has identified the victim of a fatal stabbing on Sunday, May 4, 2025, as 30-year-old Ryan Gene Simmons. His next of kin has been notified.
Officers were dispatched around 10:22 p.m. to the 2800 block of S. Madison Avenue in response to an aggravated assault. Upon arrival, they found Ryan near a driveway suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to Onvida Health but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
On Thursday, May 8, authorities located and arrested 45-year-old Charlie Vega in Los Angeles, California. He is currently in custody and awaiting extradition in connection with Ryan’s death.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and police have not released additional details at this time.
Ryan Gene Simmons is remembered by loved ones as a kind-hearted and deeply cherished individual, taken far too soon. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in the coming days.
