SCAD shooting – Police reponds to report of active at Savannah College of Art and Design
ATLANTA — Students at all campuses of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) received emergency alerts Tuesday afternoon following reports of a possible active shooter situation.
The alert, issued shortly after 2 p.m., instructed students, faculty, and staff to shelter in place while authorities investigated. According to initial reports, the potential threat was centered near SCAD’s Atlanta campus, prompting an immediate lockdown and a coordinated police response.
SCAD officials confirmed that the emergency notification was sent out of an abundance of caution as local law enforcement assessed the situation. “The safety of our students and community is our top priority,” a spokesperson for the college said.
As of late Tuesday, there were no confirmed injuries, and details about the suspected shooter or motive remained unclear. The Atlanta Police Department is continuing its investigation and has not yet confirmed whether a gunman was found on or near campus.
Students reported tense scenes as they barricaded inside classrooms and residence halls. “We just got the alert and locked the door. Everyone stayed quiet,” said one student who wished to remain anonymous.
SCAD has campuses in Atlanta, Savannah, and abroad, but the threat appeared localized. The university has yet to confirm when lockdown orders will be lifted.
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
