On Thursday morning there were reports of an apparent suicide Behind Fairhaven Pharmacy. The incident occurred at 72 Main St. 8:22 AM August 1, 2024. Police officers responded to the scene amidst report of gunshot sounds at Fairhaven Pharmacy.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a man unresponsive with apparent gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was also found at scene.

A nearby Bar at 47 Middle St is also the scene of interest in the investigation. Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of this devastating loss. Authorities have identified the man who died after being shot by Des Moines police officers Tuesday morning as 45-year-old Weston Dean Derby of Bellevue, Nebraska. The shooting occurred in the 5800 block of SE 35th Circle.

According to report, he pointed a gun at them following a police chase. According to report, During the chase Derby turned to face the officers and pulled out a gun, pointing it first at his own head and then at them. Derby was injured by gunfire at that moment, which was exchanged by both policemen. Derby was pronounced dead at the scene.
